HOUSE BILL 1165
House Bill 1165 aims to strengthen the enforcement of court-ordered visitation rights by granting parents the ability to request an emergency hearing if their ex-partner unjustly denies them access to their children. This legislation requires the court to respond within ten days of the request, ensuring swift action in these sensitive matters. If the court finds the other parent in violation, it may impose a variety of penalties, including compensatory visitation, fines, mandatory parenting classes, or community service. Additionally, the court will consider modifications to the visitation schedule to prioritize the child's best interests. Noncompliance with the court's orders could also lead to contempt charges against the offending parent. This law is set to take effect on October 1, 2025, aiming to promote accountability and protect the rights of both parents and children.
